Once you’ve done that, try and find a common theme. For example, do you find happiness in certain social situations (and if so, which ones?). Does the monotony of your job have you banging your head against the wall? Is that because you don’t like the work, or you don’t like the repetition?

Narrow down your list into themes, and then start trying to work out where you can find more of what you like and adapt what you don’t to make it more palatable.

Reading offers you the opportunity to be a fly on the wall without leaving your house. Whether it’s a romance novel, poem, newspaper, or blog post, reading helps you challenge your view of the world and open your mind.

And in opening your mind, you’ll find more fulfilment in your daily life, adapting your new learnings in a way that fits your natural rhythm.

  1. Get feedback from your loved ones

No one can see into your mind except you. But sometimes, we are in so deep that we don’t notice certain behaviours or reactions we have. And those very things could help you understand what brings purpose to your life.

So why not ask the people around you what they think you are good at and what they see brings you happiness? It’s excellent research to help you level up and find your purpose!


  1. Try new things

Imagine if you’d never tried chocolate before? You wouldn’t know the incredible taste you’re missing out on. (Unless you’re one of the few people in the world that don’t like chocolate – sorry!) 

The point is, you can’t know what you want (or don’t want) until you experience more of life. And that means actively searching out new experiences and learning from them.

So, sign up to that class, join that group, and dare to try the things that scare you. You never know how much your life can benefit from it.

Living your life with gratitude is a good way to find purpose in your life. When you realise that life is something you participate in, not just something that happens to you, it empowers you to live more purposefully.

So start every morning writing three to five things you are grateful for, and watch your mindset shift.

There’s only so much you can learn from the comfort of your backyard. To expand your horizons, you need to literally expand them! That means travelling and seeing what else is out there in the world. Embracing new cultures and learning how different people interact.

When you become a citizen of the world, your inner world becomes much richer.
