7 Effective Ways To Increase Your Positive Energy

Let’s face it. A lot of the media around us these days is negative. The news shows devastation, social media shows people insulting each other for no good reason. When you add this to the stresses of everyday life, it’s enough to deplete even the energiser bunny!

Sure, there are some great people and uplifting news out there, but somehow the negative always finds a way to shout loudest. And that’s why it’s up to us to protect our energy so we can go through our day with the light and positivity we deserve.

We’ve all heard the phrase ‘sending positive vibes’, but what exactly does this mean, and what would be the benefits of positive vibes?

What are the benefits of having positive energy?

Positive energy (also referred to as positive vibes) is all about where you keep your focus. It is impossible to only have good or bad in your life – there will always be a mixture of both. The difference comes in where you choose to dedicate your energy.

Think of it as the glass half full analogy. There’s one glass with water filled halfway and two people observing it. One person may describe it as “half full”, and the other as “half empty”.

The benefits of cultivating your positive energy are a sense of calm and freedom that help reduce stress, anxiety, depression, headaches, inflammation, and blood pressure.

And that’s just the tip of the iceberg. In increasing your positive energy, you will find that not only do new opportunities present themselves to you, but also you are open to experiencing life more fully. It’s a two-way street!

So how can you start raking in those benefits?

How To Attract Positive Energy in 7 Ways

1. Practice gratitude daily

As I mentioned previously, positive energy comes from where you choose to focus your attention. By taking time out of your day to remind yourself of some of the things you are thankful for, you make a conscious decision to focus on the abundance in your life instead of what is missing.

In turn, this fills you with positive energy as you feel more fulfilled with where you are in your life as opposed to being unhappy with what you don’t have.

To make daily gratitude practice easier to keep track of, you can use a gratitude journal. Using a gratitude journal works as a daily prompt, to remind you to start and end your day with gratitude.

2. Do things that align with your personality and bring you joy

One of the biggest reasons people struggle to improve the positive energy in their lives is because they are putting themselves in situations that don’t align with who they are inside.

For example, someone who hates answering phone calls may have ended up in a job in a call centre. While there are times when we have to take a job we hate to make ends meet, by focusing on activities that can help us change to something that brings us joy and aligns with our personalities, we start to shift our life view from one of misery to one of hope.

Think of it like a river trying to flow against the current. It’s extremely hard and energy-consuming.

Working with your natural current will help you increase your positive energy.

3. Curate your media intake

The block button is one of the most underutilised wellbeing tools on social media. Just because someone feels the need to spread hate on the internet doesn’t mean you need to read it.

Go through your social media and unfollow or block all the accounts that make you feel unworthy, bad about yourself, or else make you feel negative whenever you see them post. Having this filter allows you to protect your positive energy.

You could go one step further and add a blocker app on your phone. This will prevent you from opening up social media apps or certain websites.

Likewise, limit how much you are listening to the news. While it is important to stay informed on current affairs, too much news can really affect your mental health – especially if you are feeling a little vulnerable.

4. Look after your physical health

Exercise and eating healthily will help you improve your positive energy. When you eat too much of certain foods, you may feel sluggish and unable to face the day.

More importantly, many studies link gut health to mental health, so the better you treat your gut, the better your wellbeing will be.

As for exercise, when you feel full of adrenaline because you feel scared or angry, exercise can help you burn it off and replace it with endorphins – the perfect accomplice to positive energy.

5. Talk kindly to yourself

We can be our own worst bullies sometimes. We set ourselves standards so high that we’ll never be able to accomplish them, making us feel worthless. So, watch how you speak to yourself. If you find yourself using words like “should” or “must”, take a step back and re-evaluate.

And remember that doing your best looks different on a daily basis, so don’t beat yourself up if you are struggling.

Using affirmations is useful in this instance. Affirmations are short positive statements about yourself, and can help improve upon a positive mindset. An example of an affirmation would be, ‘I believe in myself and my abilities’. Essentially, by reading out a positive statement about yourself, it limits the chance of negative self-talk. You can create your own affirmation on a piece of card, or use an affirmation card deck.

6. Keep your space decluttered

When the space around us is unorganised, it can cause a chain reaction in our minds. The distractions around you can cause you to lose your focus and feel unsettled. Your space doesn’t have to be spotless, but make sure there is no mindless clutter around.

7. Learn to set boundaries

Yes. No. Two of the most essential words to improve your energy.

Learning how to say no means learning to place boundaries on things and people that make you feel bad, or that will cause you harm, or that will prevent you from fulfilling your own plans.

On the other hand, saying no too often can close you off to new and exciting adventures. So learning to say yes will allow you to gain positive energy from new experiences.

The key is to find the balance between when to use each one.

Attracting Positive Energy Quotes

If you need a daily reminder to raise your positive energy, then quotes are a fantastic tool for this. Choose one of the below quotes about positive energy, and select the one that resonates most with you. Connect to the words, and think about how they make you feel. Write the quote down on a piece of card that you can position in a place you will see daily, such as your bedside table, bathroom mirror, or fridge. Each time you see the quote, read it with intention, as though it is the first time you have read it.
